Mahila Parishad president Ayesha Khanam dies

Ayesha Khanam, president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad and a freedom fighter, passed away on Saturday morning. (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un)
As she fell ill early today, she was taken to BRB Hospital in the capital where doctors pronounced her dead. She was 74.
Maleka Banu, general secretary of Mahila Parishad, confirmed the information in a press statement.
According to the statement, Ayesha Khanam was a former vice president of Chhatra Union, who played a prominent role as an organiser of some of the country's most significant historical events, including the student movement of 1962, the mass uprising of 1969 and the Liberation War of 1971.
Ayesha Khanam, who has been serving the president of BMP - a women rights organisation - since 2008, was born on October 18, 1947, in Gabragati, Netrokona. She would be buried there.
