MC College gang rape: Students asked to leave hostels

Students have been asked to leave hostels over gang-raping a young woman after tying up her husband at Murari Chand (MC) College dormitory in Sylhet. The students have been ordered to leave dormitories by 12 noon on Saturday.

At the same time, an emergency meeting has been called at the college on Saturday afternoon, where the next course of action will be determined. MC College Hostel Super Jamal Uddin confirmed the development.

Hostel Superintendent Jamal Uddin said that although the college is closed due to coronavirus some students are staying in the dormitory due to tuition. Now everyone has been instructed to leave the hostel. College authorities will take further action against those who do not leave the hostel now.

Earlier on Friday evening, the couple from Shibbari area of ​​South Surma visited the MC College campus. At that time, Saifur and his associates - Rabiul, Tarek, Rony, Saifur, Mahfuj, and Arjun - took the woman and her husband to the nearby college hostel, where they tied up the husband and raped the woman. 

Being informed, police rescued the rape victim and her husband and sent the victim to the One-stop Crisis Centre at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.  

Following the incident, a team of RAB-9 led by ASP Samiul Alam visited the spot. Police raided the room of accused rapist Saifur Rahman at MC College Hostel around 2pm. At that time 1 pipe gun, 4 Ramdas, 1 knife, and other domestic and foreign weapons were recovered from his room. 

The victim's husband filed a case with Shahparan Police Station on Saturday morning, naming six people and three other unidentified persons.

The accused case are M Saifur Rahman, Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Tareq, Arjun Lankar, Rabiul Islam and Mahfuzur Rahman. Three of them are college students. 

On the other hand, police have filed another case under the Arms Act with the accused rapist Saifur Rahman as the main accused.
