MC College gang rape: Education ministry forms probe body

The Ministry of Education has formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident of gang rape of a woman after tying up her husband at the dormitory of Murari Chand (MC) College in Sylhet.
Md. Abul Khayer, Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, confirmed the matter on Tuesday.
Earlier on Friday evening, the couple from Shibbari area of South Surma visited the MC College campus. At that time, Saifur and his associates took the woman and her husband to the nearby college hostel, where they tied up the husband and raped the woman. On information, the police rescued the rape victim and her husband.
Later, the victim’s husband filed the case with the Sylhet Metropolitan Police's Shahparan police station on Saturday morning, naming six people. Three more unnamed persons have been accused in the case.
The accused are — MC College BCL leader M Saifur Rahman, Shah Md. Mahbubur Rahman Rony, a master’s student of English department, Tareq Ahmed, Arjun Laskar, Rabiul Islam and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum. Although the accused Tareq and Rabiul are outsiders, the other four are students of MC College.
