Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Tuesday said a low has formed over Northwest Bay and adjoining Bangladesh-West Bengal coast. It is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction.

The Deep Depression over North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha weakened into a Depression over North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining area, said the Met Office, adding that it is likely to move west-northwesterly direction further and weaken gradually.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajsthan, Andhra Pradesh, the centre of the low and thence northeastwards to Assam across Southern part of Bangladesh.

Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong elsewhere over North Bay.

The Met Office also forecasted light to moderate rain or thunder showers at many places over the country in the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00 am today.

"Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Khulna and Barishal divisions; at many places over Dhaka and Chattogram divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over southern part of the country," said a Met Office release issued this morning.

Meanwhile, day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the release added.

As an outlook for the next 72 hours, BMD predicted: "Rainfall activity may decrease."

The country's maximum temperature on Monday was recorded by 36.5 degrees Celsius at Tarash in the Rajshahi division and the minimum temperature today was recorded by 23.8 degrees Celsius at Rajarhat under the Rangpur division.

Maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6:00 am today was 81 millimeters (mm) at Feni in Chattogram division.

Today's sunset at Dhaka at 5:48 pm and tomorrow's sunrise will be at 5:50 am.
