A police officer has been shot dead at Croydon Custody Centre in south London.
The male sergeant was shot in the chest before the suspect turned the firearm on himself according to BBC sources. The suspect was brought to the custody suite in a police vehicle. While he was being questioned about Covid-19 the shooting happened.
A minute's silence has been held for the officer described by the Met Police chief as a "much-loved colleague".
The Met chief said the policing family was "deeply shocked and very sad" following the death of the officer.
The victim was a long-serving police officer, who had a few weeks left for retirement. Country police didn’t disclose the name of the officer. His colleagues described him as one of the kind officers.
An investigation is underway and officers are working at several crime scenes to secure evidence.
