It is proposed to extend the duration of the ongoing lockdown by another phase to tackle the coronavirus infection.
According to the Cabinet Division and the Ministry of Public Administration, a proposal to extend the lockdown for another 10 days has been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) from the Cabinet Division. If approved, a circular will be issued on Wednesday.
A circular was issued by the Cabinet Division on June 6 extending the lockdown period by 10 days which will end at midnight on Wednesday.
However, strict lockdown is already being imposed in the border districts to prevent the spread of the Indian variant of the Covid-19.
A lockdown was announced on April 5 this year due to an increase in Covid-19 cases. Although the lockdown was until April 13, the government announced a ‘strict lockdown’ from April 14 as the infection increased.
At one stage, public transport was allowed in the city corporation area. However, long-distance bus, launch and train services were closed till Eid. Later, public transport was also resumed from May 24.
