The middle section of a bridge has been collapsed a long time ago in the Pagla Bazar area of Sidli-Paboy road in Kalmakanda, Netrokona. Small vehicles can operate with a huge risk in that bridge, but no bus-trucks are able to operate.
Locals complained that the condition of the bridge is very bad for a long time but the authorities don’t take any initiative to reform it. On the other hand, authorities say that the bridge will be reformed within a very short time.
According to sources in the office of the Upazila Engineer and the local resident, the middle part of the bridge collapsed on September 10 in the Pagla Bazar area of Sidli-Paboy road in Kalmakanda.
This collapse occurs when an over-weight sand truck is loaded onto a truck bridge. After that, the road stopped for more than 12 hours.
On the basis of the news, two decks were set to make the movement normal in the collapsed section of the bridge by the local government Engineering Department. Recently, the part of the decks has been collapsed.
For the last one month, various large vehicles, including bus-trucks, have been disrupted. And small vehicles, including CNG, auto-rickshaws, and rickshaws are crossing the bridge by taking a huge risk. Locals fear that accidents could happen at any time.
It is reported that the two bailey decks in the collapsed section of the bridge did not work. There is no ‘danger sign’ at that point.
There is no attempt to reform the bridge by the local public representatives, local people complaints. They demanded a quick fix.
Upazila Engineer Afsar Uddin said that some parts of the bridge had collapsed due to heavy vehicles. Steel decks have been installed in that section. It needs to be reformed. Senior authorities have been informed about this. This problem will be solved quickly.
