Locals’ clash with cops in N’ganj, 1 killed

In Narayanganj's Bandar Upazila, a clash took place between a local group and Police to snatch two detained accused. It killed at least one and another fifty people including police have been injured.

The incident occurred on Saturday night. Two cars of police were vandalized during this riot. Due to the clash, the traffic movement was closed for about one and a half hours on Dhaka-Chittagong highway. To bring the situation under control, police fired several rounds of tear cells and blank shots. The situation is still flop there.

There are four policemen including SI Mohammad Ali, Constable Debashish, and Mohan were hurt in this incident; and at least 40 to 45 local people have been injured. Among them, a youth named Babu was shot and admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The deceased was identified as Ashikur Rahman (25). He is the son of Shahidul Islam of Chanpur area of ​​Madanpur. Ashikur Rahman is a garment Worker of Pandex garments of Madanpur.

Ashikur's family said that Ashikur returned home late on Saturday afternoon from his workplace. Later in the evening, he went to move abut to the local bazar, then Ashikur lost his life in the middle of the collision.

It is learned that showdown would continue to dominate the region for long time between UP member Khalilur Rahman alias Khalil Member and a group of opponents in Madanpur. On November 18, 2018, the opponents entered Khalil’s office forcibly and hit him with a sharp knife randomly.

Witnesses said drug dealers Nur Nabi and Rifat, two drug vendors, were detained from a restaurant named Dreamland in Madanpur area on Saturday evening. They are mainly of Khalil member. The news spread locally. Then 25 to 30 people, including Khulil's group leader Sujan son of Matin of Chandpur area, Dipu, Mainuddin, Selim, Mukul and Hannan surrounded the police. They tried to snatch the detainees.

When police try to stop them, they started attacking. At around 7:30 pm Khalil member of Madanpur area and his men chased the police. Later the police went to the counter action. When the clash broke out between the Khalil member’s group and the police, the police fired tear cells and blank shots. Road movements on Dhaka-Chittagong highway halted.

Later on 9pm, additional police and law enforcing agencies arrived there and brought the situation under control.

Narayanganj Bandar Police Station OC Azharul Islam said after the clash, the situation is now under control. We do not know the fact that someone died.
