The death toll in the horrible AC explosion in the Narayanganj’s Talla Baitus Salat Jame Mosque in Fatullah has risen to 14, including a child and a muezzin. The burn victims are being treated at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital. The rest out of the 37 victims are also in the critical state.

Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute Coordinator Dr. Samanta Lal Sen has confirmed the matter On Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Delwar Hossain, 48 the Muazzin of the mosque, Humayun Kabir, 70, Jewel, Ibrahim, 43, Junaid, 17, Jamal, 40, Jubayer, 7, Rifat, 18, Mostafa Kamal, 34, Sabbir, 21, Rashel, 34, Quddus Byapari, 72, Jaynal, Mainuddin. Besides, the names of the other two have not been known yet.

Earlier, the assistant director of the burn unit Dr. Hussein Imam said all the burn victims had burned their airways. Injured patients are being treated. A dedicated ward has been set up for those injured in the blast. The Director-General of the Department of Health visited. But no one is safe.

Meanwhile, local administrative officials who came to the hospital to see the burn victims said everything would be investigated. The inquiry committee has been asked to report within 10 days.

Witnesses said an electric transformer near the Baituch Salat Jame Mosque on the west floor of Fatulla Police Station in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila suddenly exploded with loud noises during Esha prayers on Friday (September 4th). The AC also exploded inside the mosque. At that moment, a fire broke out inside the mosque. When the sparks of fire spread, the worshipers started getting burnt.

Imam of the mosque Malek Ansari and Muazzin Delwar Hossain, photojournalist Nadeem Hossain and 38 others were burnt. The injured were first taken to Narayanganj 100-bed General Hospital. Later they were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Dhaka Medical.

Meanwhile, locals are claiming that the explosion happened due to the negligence of the gas authorities of Titas. Witnesses said that for a long time, there was a smell of gas coming out of the leakage of the Titus line under this mosque. The locals complained that no action was taken despite repeated complaints.
