Lighting strikes kill 4 while picking mangoes in storm

Four people, including women and children from the same village, were killed in a lightning strike while collecting mangoes at Charghat in Rajshahi. Two more were injured in the incident.

The incident took place at Chakkapashia village of Yusufpur UP of the upazila on Monday afternoon.

The deceased are – Mukta Begum, wife of Azam Ali of that village, Aleya Khatun Babli, wife of Kabil Hossain, Parash, son of Md. Johnny, and Sohan, son of Mahbub.

The identities of the injured were not known. They are being treated at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Yusufpur UP Chairman Shafiul Alam Ratan said women and children were picking mangoes during the storm in the afternoon. Mukta Begum and Aleya Khatun died on the spot due to lightning. Four people including Parash and Sohan were injured. Two children died on the way to the hospital. The other two are undergoing treatment at RMCH Hospital.

Katakhali Police Station OC Noor-e-Alam Siddiqui said the bodies of the four would be handed over to their families after the legal process. An unnatural death case will be filed in this regard.
