Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that license will be required from the Ministry of Information from now on to broadcast foreign serials on television.

“Besides, the directors have to pay tax when making TV commercials by foreign models,” he said in a meeting with Directors Guild, an association of TV directors on Tuesday.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud said the decision would be taken soon to protect the country artists and the industry. The model artists of our country are very smart and good-looking, but instead, TVC is being with the models of second-grade artists from other countries. “We are going to introduce a policy to protect the artists and industries of the country.”

When there was only one TV channel BTV in the country, it would have to pay extra tax when making an advertisement from abroad, the minister said. “There is still a tax provision for making ads through foreign models. However, only the artist has to pay tax. ”

Many of those who made the ads, said that the artist was not honored. So the artist does not have to pay any tax, Dr. Hasan Mahmud mentioned.

“The government is losing revenue and our artists are losing jobs,” the minister said. “Our country’s artists are losing jobs despite having enough talent. For this, we took such a decision.”

“But for those who make ads, they have to pay the excise tax along with the artist from now on. We will take decisions at the inter-ministerial meeting so that the artists and industry of our country are protected, ”said the Information Minister.

Claiming that there is now a quality program with good dramas, he said, “But we are seeing TV serials from abroad being broadcasted here. One or two channels started the trend, now the different channels are following those.”

“We already have issued directives from our ministry for this. If any foreign serial will be shown on television, then the permission for information ministry will have to require,” Dr. Hasan Mahmud also said adding, “A committee was formed regarding this a few days ago.”
