Legendary novelist Humayun Ahmed’s uncle dies at 82

Altafur Rahman Ahmed, the uncle of the late Humayun Ahmed, the legendary novelist in Bangladesh, has died (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un).
He breathed his last at the Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj on Saturday morning at the age of 82.
Altafur Rahman Ahmed, a resident of Kutubpur village in Kendua upazila of Netrokona, confirmed Asaduzzaman, the headteacher of Shaheed Smriti Vidyapeeth established by Humayun Ahmed.
“Altafur Rahman Ahmed was Humayun Ahmed’s younger uncle,” headteacher Asaduzzaman said, mentioning that Altafur Rahman had been suffering from old-age complications. He was buried at the family graveyard after the Namaz-e-Janaza in his village at 3 pm.
Altafur Rahman Ahmed was a teacher by profession. Most recently, he taught at the local Kalsahati Government Primary School. Altafur Rahman Ahmed was also a member of the steering committee of the Shaheed Smriti Vidyapeeth built by Humayun Ahmed.
Teachers, students and members of the steering committee of Shaheed Smriti Vidyapeeth have expressed deep grief over his death.
