Farhana Yasmin Baten, a lecturer at the Department of Cultural Heritage and Bangladesh Studies of Rabindra University (RUB) in Shahjadpur of Sirajganj, has been temporarily suspended for cutting off the hair of 14 students.
At the same time, it has been announced to close the academic and administrative activities of the university indefinitely. Besides, all the tests have also been postponed.
The decision was taken at the 16th syndicate meeting of the university held at 8 pm on Thursday.
Laila Ferdous Himel, chairman of the university’s Department of Rabindra Studies and head of the five-member investigation committee, and Abdul Latif, additional treasurer in charge of the university’s VC, confirmed the matter.
The university syndicate has taken the decision as the allegation was initially proved. On the other hand, it was decided at the meeting that the investigation-related activities will continue.
It is to be mentioned that Nazmul Hossain Tuhin (25), a first-year student of the Department of History, Culture and Bangladesh Studies, tried to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills at 8 pm on September 26 over the incident of cutting off the hair of 14 students of the department.
Later, the accused lecturer Farhana Yasmin Baten resigned from the three posts in charge on Tuesday night.
