The Holy Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated all over the country and cattle sacrifice begins after the prayers. After that, leather collection to a limited extent has begun in different areas of the capital on Saturday.
The sale of leather has started since noon and will continue till night. As many people sacrifice animals on the second and third days of Eid, as a result, the leather will be sold on these two days. As a result, the leather trade will start in full swing in the afternoon, according to traders.
The traders expect that the leather will come as per the target this year at the largest raw leather warehouse of the country. After salting the skin there, it will go to the tannery Palli in Savar.
This year, the price of cow skin in Dhaka has been fixed at Tk 35 to 40 per square foot and outside Dhaka at Tk 28 to 32. Besides, the price of goatskin has been reduced by about 27 percent to Tk 13 to 15 per square foot. Last year, the price of cow skin was fixed at Tk 45 to Tk 50 per square foot. Besides, the price of goatskin was Tk 18 to 20 per square foot.
The leather industry is the second-largest export-oriented sector in the country. About half of the leather that the industry owners collect throughout the year comes on Eid al-Adha.
