Launch sinking in Buriganga: Mayur-2 owner arrested

Naval police have arrested Mosaddek Hanif Soad, the main accused in the case of drowning of ML Morning Bird in Buriganga after being pushed by MV Mayur-2. Mosaddeq owns the Mayur-2 launch.
A team of Sadarghat Naval Police arrested him from the Sobhanbagh area of Kalabagan in the capital on Wednesday night.
Dhaka Zone Superintendent of Police Faridul Islam confirmed the information on Thursday morning.
He said a team of Sadarghat Naval Police arrested him from an apartment in the Sobhanbagh area on the basis of secret information. Details in this regard will be informed later.
On June 29, a launch named ML Morning Bird sank in Buriganga after being pushed by a larger launch Mayur-2 near Shyambazar while carrying passengers from Munshiganj's Kathpatti to Sadarghat. It killed 34 people.
A case was filed against seven persons with South Keraniganj police station alleging negligent killing in the launch sinking incident. The accused in the case are Mosaddek Hanif Soad, owner of MV Mayur-2, Abul Bashar Mollah and Zakir Hossain, launch master, Shipon Hawlader and Shakil Hossain, drivers and Sukani Nasir Mridha and Md. Hreday.
