Launch movement on Banglabazar-Shimulia route suspended

Due to the lockdown in Dhaka's seven districts, launch movement on the Banglabazar-Shimulia route has been remained suspended since Tuesday morning. However, the ferry services are operating in case of emergency.
Akhter Hossain, traffic inspector at Banglabazar Ghat of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), said launch operations on the Banglabazar-Shimulia route, known as the gateway to 21 districts in the south-west of the country, have been suspended due to a lockdown imposed in seven districts. However, the ferry services are operating in case of emergency.
The government has announced a strict lockdown in Rajbari, Manikganj, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Madaripur and Gopalganj districts from Tuesday morning (June 22) to June 30 due to a surge of coronavirus infection. Various restrictions have been imposed in these districts including public movement. The authorities have also instructed to suspend the launch movement on routes linked with these districts.
He added that launch services on the route would remain suspended until further notice. Speedboat movement has suspended from earlier.
