Launch carrying 50 sinks in Buriganga River

A launch carrying 50 passengers sank in the Buriganga river along Shaymbazar area in the capital on Monday morning. Meanwhile, a rescue ship of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has left Narayanganj to rescue the ship. However, the divers of the fire service have already started the operation in the Buriganga to rescue the missing passengers.
It has been reported that the "Morning Bird" launch on Dhaka-Munshiganj route capsized in the Buriganga river after being hit by another launch named Moyur-2 this morning.
According to the locals, the two-storey Morning Bird launch, which left Munshiganj at around 9:00 am, hit the Chandpur-bound Mayur-2 launch just before reaching at Sadarghat Kathpatti Ghat.
Massive casualties are being feared in this incident. However, no casualties have been reported so far.
Confirming the matter, duty officer at the fire service and civil defense headquarters Rozina Akhter that the launch sank next to the Cumilla dock area.
