Language movement veteran Dr Hazrat Ali passed away at Gopalpur in Tangail. (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilahi Raziun)
The Language movement hero breathed his last at around 5:00 pm on Friday. He has been suffering from old-age-complications for a long time. His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Nabagram Dakhil Madrasa ground around 9:00 am on Saturday.
Hazrat Ali, the son of the late Rostam Ali of Nabgram in Gopalpur Upazila, was a seventh grader in 1952.
On that day when section 144 was imposed, Hazrat Ali, his classmate Mahendra Debnath and a tenth-grader Abdur Rahim of the same school were arrested while taking part in a procession.
Later, they were sent to Mymensingh Jail. After 25 days of imprisonment there, they were sent to Tangail Jail. After serving 4 days in jail, the brave language hero was released on bail.
