At least 10 people were killed after landslides struck North Kalimantan province in central Indonesia early Monday, with risk assessment being undertaken, two officials said.

Head of Emergency Unit of Provincial Disaster Management Agency Samto said that heavy downpours triggered landslides in three spots in Tarakan city of the province, but did not cause an evacuation.

Jusuf Latif, a spokesman for the National Search and Rescue Office, said rescue teams came immediately after receiving the news of landslide.

"All the 10 corpses have already been retrieved by our team and others," Latief added.

He said army, police, disaster management personnel, and volunteers also took part in the rescue operation.
