Laborer killed by overturning crane in Cumilla

A laborer named Hedayet Ullah has been killed while a crane of a construction firm of Rural Electrification Board overturned in Sadar South of Cumilla. 

Deceased Hedayet is the son of Abdul Latif of South Changaon village in Lalmai Upazila.

Five more workers have been injured in the incident, which took place at Mohanpur village in Sadar South on Tuesday morning.

Barpara UP chairman Selim Ahmed said the construction firm was going to the Cumilla-Noakhali railway line with workers to install poles with crane. When they reached Mohanpur, the crane overturned and fell into a ditch on the side of the road. Six workers were crushed. Five of them were rescued injured. The deceased Hedayet Ullah was pushed on the ground for a long time. 

Police and fire service recovered the body. However, the crane could not be recovered in five hours.

Abdul Hannan, Executive Engineer of the Rural Electrification Board Cumilla project, said the crane was going to install poles near the Cumilla-Noakhali railway line. Initially, it was learned that this accident happened due to the negligence of the driver.
