Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Monday accepted the resignation of the government submitted by the Prime Minister, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
KUNA said the emir has asked the government to stay on in a caretaker capacity until a new cabinet is formed.
Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah submitted on January 13 the resignation of his government to the Emir amid disputes with the parliament.
The move came after cabinet members tendered their resignations en masse to the premier, citing current developments regarding the relationship between parliament and the government.
Lawmakers asked to grill the prime minister over what they described as constitutional violations.
The Kuwaiti government led by Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad was formed on December 14, 2020.
