Kushtia AL leader killed in factional clash

A local Awami League leader was killed in a factional clash between two rival groups of the ruling party over establishing supremacy in Abdalpur village of Kushtia Sadar Upazila on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Moinuddin Bishwas, father of Islamic University (IU) Chhatra League unit general secretary Jewel Rana Halim.

IU police station OC Ratan Sheikh said that several hundred supporters of Abdalpur union AL general secretary Golam Mostafa equipped with locally made weapons whooped on the house of another Awami League leader UP chairman Ali Haider early hours of the day that triggered a fierce clash in the village, leaving Mainuddin critically injured.

Later, the injured was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

SM Tanvir Arafat, superintendent of Kushtia Police, said that the clash took place over establishing supremacy. On information, he visited the spot.

To avoid any further unwanted situation, additional policemen have been deployed in and around the village, the SP added.
