Kopotakkho entering locality by breaching embankment

Water is entering the locality by breaching the embankment due to the tide of Kopotakkho River at Koyra in Khulna. The people living at the river bank area is spending a sleepless night in erosion panic.  

While visiting the area on Wednesday, it was seen that the water of Kopotakkho River is entering at Dashaliya area in Maharajpur UP of the Koyra Upazila. Though people are trying to stop this voluntarily, however, terrified with the tide that occurs at night.  

If immediate measures are not taken, then there is a risk of floods in five villages by breaking the embankment at any time.   

“The 21-km area of the 154-km Koyra BWDB is in the risky state,” said Maharajpur UP chairman GM Abdullah adding, “The 8-km embankment area is more vulnerable. With the help of locals, work is being done day and night to prevent the water from entering.”  

Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) Amadi section officer Selim Mia said the matter had been reported to the senior authorities. Action will be taken on an urgent basis, he added.
