Preity Zinta’s team has been playing under the name of Kings XI Punjab since the first edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, they have changed their names before the 14th edition of the competition. The team will play under the name Punjab Kings from next season.
Cricket website CricBuzz reports that the franchise has already contacted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a name change.
It is believed that the Punjab franchise has also received approval from the BCCI to change its name. However, neither the owner nor any official of the team gave any reason for the name change.
This season’s IPL auction will be held on February 18. Earlier, it was reported that they will announce their new names through a big ceremony. They will take part in this year’s IPL auction under the new name at the event held in Mumbai.
Kings XI Punjab has been participating in the IPL regularly for the last 13 seasons. However, they have not tasted the title yet. The biggest success of the team so far is being runners up. They also finished third once.
