The Department of Nephrology of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) has started surgery to place a ‘permanent tunneled catheter’ for kidney dialysis for the patients who have been suffering from kidney problems for a long time, the hospital authorities said on Thursday.
According to a press release signed by Dr. Zakiul Islam, hospital’s assistant director, in the evening, the surgery has to be done at any private hospital with “Tk 50,000-60,000”. But from now on, it will be possible to do this with only Tk 1000 in this hospital.
It is learned that Runa Akhter of Kendua upazila in Netrokona and Rustam Ali of Sherpur Sadar upazila were suffering from a complex disease called ‘CKD stage 5 with Hypertension with Diabetes mellitus’, as a result, they underwent surgery on Thursday. From now on, it will be possible to give them dialysis with this permanent tunneled catheter, the press release added.
The surgery was performed under the supervision of Omar Farooq Mia, assistant professor of MMCH’s Department of Nephrology. Dr. Ashutosh Saha Roy, head of the department, was in overall supervision.
“Necessary steps have been taken to ensure that those suffering from complex kidney problems get this service for a nominal fee from now on,” said Dr. Hasanul Islam Akash.
