Khulna’s train communication with rest of the country remained suspended following a collision between two freight trains at Safdalpur station in Kotchandpur, Jhenaidah.

The accident took place at 1:43 am on Tuesday. After the collision, three compartments including the engine were derailed.

Kotchandpur station manager Golam Mostafa said that the oil-laden freight train from Parbatipur collided with the goods-laden freight train from Jashore Noapara on the same line after disobeying signals.

Three bogies of the two trains with engines derailed. A huge amount of diesel oil has spilt in the area. However, no casualties were reported. Meanwhile, a relief train from Ishwardi has reached the spot and started the rescue work, he added.

The accident took place due to the negligence of the driver, the station manager said.
