Khulna gang-rape on bus: All 7 accused held

Police have arrested a total of seven people in the incident of gang-rape to a young woman on a bus in Jashore. The victim filed a case with the Jashore Kotwali Police Station accusing 7 people on Friday afternoon.

“All 7 accused have been arrested. They will be handed over to the court on Saturday,” said Kotwali Police Station OC Mohammad Moniruzzaman.

The accused in the case are – bus workers Monirul Islam of Ramnagar Dhopapara area of Jashore Sadar, Shahin Hossain Johnny of Barandi Mollapara area of the city, Krishna Biswas of City College Para, Subhash Singh, Rakibul Islam Rakib of Barandi Kanthaltala Baubazar, Kazi Mukul of Barandipara area and Mainul Islam of Bejpara Cemetery area.

OC Moniruzzaman said that the divorced woman, hailed from Jashore Bagherpara upazila, worked as a nursemaid in a private hospital in Laxmipur area of Rajshahi. The woman used to come and go from Rajshahi to Jashore by MK Paribahan bus every time. On the way, she met Monir, the bus helper and talked with him over mobile phone occasionally.

Monir, on Thursday, called her to come to Jashore. Later, around 11:00 pm, she got on the bus in front of the Manihar theatre and called him and met him, he also said.

“Monir told the woman that there would be no bus to Bagherpara and offered to stay on the bus at the time and later made a physical relationship with her. The other workers there caught them in an abusive situation and three workers tried to rape the woman. When he interrupted, three more workers beat him.” 

After receiving the news, the police went to the spot and rescued the woman and admitted her to Jashore General Hospital and took 7 people including Monir to the police station. They were shown arrested in the case on Friday evening, OC Moniruzzaman added.
