Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that BNP leader Khaleda Zia will be taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for some medical checkups and tests soon.

The minister said this after the meeting with BNP delegation at the Home Ministry on Tuesday noon.

He said, “As per the High Court order, a board has been formed to treat Khaleda Zia. She is being treated as per the board’s advice. As it is directed by the court, so the board is doing as much as it says.”

The Home Minister said, “They wanted to take Khaleda Zia’s medical treatment to United Hospital. But since the court has an order, the board will decide where she will be treated.”

Replying to a query from reporters, he said, “I will talk to IG (Inspector General) prison about the medical board’s suggestions and ask him to send her to BSMMU for some checkup and tests soon following the jail code.”

The minister also said that soon Khaleda Zia will be taken to BSMMU for all the tests she has been asked. “The board was instructed that some of its tests should be done. They might not be able to be inside the jail. That’s why she will be taken to the hospital and proper treatment will be arranged.”

Earlier, a six-member BNP delegation met with the home minister and discussed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s physical condition and treatment. The team also demanded to shift the BNP chairperson to United Hospital.

The delegation, headed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, included Standing Committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
