Two separate courts in Dhaka will pass the order on the bail petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on May 17 in connection with two separate cases.

The two courts fixed May 17 for passing orders on the petitions when Khaleda’s lawyer Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukdar moved the petitions before the courts.

The cases were filed against her on charges of `celebrating fake birthday` and `undermining the country`s map and national flag`.

On August 30, 2016, former joint general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists, Gazi Zahirul Islam filed one of the cases against Khaleda for allegedly celebrating the fake birthday on August 15 each year.

That day, the nation observes as National Mourning Day, marking the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members in 1975.

On November 3, 2016, another case was filed by the President of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad AB Siddique against Khaleda and her late husband and former president Ziaur Rahman for allegedly undermining the country`s map and the national flag.
