New buildings are being constructed for the smooth running of banking activities of state-owned specialized banks including Karmasangsthan Bank, Probashi Kallyan Bank and Palli Sanchay Bank.
Relevant sources said a new 25-storey building would be constructed at the cost of Tk 231.74 crore under the ‘Karmasangsthan Bank Bhaban Nirman’ (Construction of Karmasangsthan Bank Building) project.
It is learned that the project will be implemented by the Karmasangsthan Bank and the Public Works Department from January 2021 to December 2023. A meeting of the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) has already been held with the suggestions of the concerned.
When asked, Dr. AA Md. Mohiuddin Osmani, head (additional secretary) of the socio-economic infrastructure department of the Planning Commission, said, “The activities of Karmasangsthan Bank are currently going on in a dilapidated building. With these in mind, a 25-storey aesthetic building will be constructed under the project. An inter-ministerial meeting of the project has already been held.”
He further said that the main activities of the project are to construct a 25-storey building with 4 basements with modern facilities for conducting banking activities of other state-owned specialized banks including Karmasangsthan Bank, Probashi Kallyan Bank and Palli Sanchay Bank.
Karmasangsthan Bank is playing an important role in eliminating unemployment through self-employment by providing loans to the unemployed youth of the country and also in the overall economic development of the country. Besides, the activities of the head offices of Probashi Kallyan Bank and Palli Sanchay Bank, which were set up to accelerate the economic development of the country, are being conducted in rented buildings.
As the specialized banks including these three banks do not have their own buildings, the Prime Minister has directed to construct a multi-storied building for the head offices of these banks. The project has been proposed to construct a beautiful multi-storied building with modern facilities on government land at No. 1 RAJUK Avenue in Dhaka as per the government rules.
Karmasangsthan Bank is currently operating in a dilapidated building in Dhaka’s Dainik Bangla. As the building is very old and dilapidated, the day-to-day activities of the head office have become risky and due to lack of space, proper functioning is not possible. As a result, banking services are being disrupted.
