Newly elected United States Vice President Kamala Harris is set to resign from the Senate. She is stepping down on Monday, two days before Joe Biden is sworn in as US President.
Confirming the matters, Gavin Newsom, the Democrat governor of the state of California, said “Alex Padilla would serve as California senator” during the tenure of Kamala Harris. He will be the first Latin senator in California.
In 2016, Harris ran for the Senate for the first time from California. She became the second African-American and the first South Asian-American to become a Senator in 2017. Democrat Kamala Harris has been elected the first female vice president in US history.
