KL Rahul, one of the mainstays of Indian batting, has ruled out from the test series against Australia due to a left wrist injury. He was a spectator in the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It is learned that it will take another three weeks for his wrist injury to recover, as a result, he dropped out of the whole series.
The BCCI said in a press release on Tuesday that he will “not be available for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he will need about three weeks time to recover completely and regain full strength”.
The 28-year-old, who has played 36 Tests but was left out for both the Adelaide and Melbourne Tests, will head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to recover.
Rahul injured his left wrist during batting practice in Melbourne last Saturday.
Earlier, two pacemen Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav were dropped from the tour of Australia due to injuries. Another experienced fast bowler Ishant Sharma could not play in the series due to injury.
Besides, captain Virat Kohli has returned to the country after the first Test on leave to be with his wife during the birth of their first child. So India is worried before the Sydney Test.
The series is locked at 1-1 after Australia won by eight wickets in Adelaide before India bounced back in Melbourne, clinching victory by the same margin.
