A school teacher named Joynal Abedin has regained his profession through legal battle after 28 years.

He joined the teaching profession at Fatehpur High School in Sharshdi union of Feni Sadar Upazilla in 1982. Although he joined as an assistant teacher, he performed all the duties of a head teacher. The then president of the school board directors Sheikh Nurul Alam dismissed the teacher in 1982 after 10 years of service.

Teacher Joynal Abedin said Fatehpur High School was established in 1976 by locals including Sheikh Mominul Islam, Joynal Abedin Bhuiyan and Sheikh Mohammad Lokman. He has been working tirelessly since joining the dilapidated school in 1982. The school is plagued with various problems including dilapidated building and furniture but he was building it gradually. On the other hand, a class of insidious quarters could not bear it.

The school board directors mandatorily took the resignation of all teachers for a scandalous incident of the then headteacher Sha Mohammed Ishaque Nizami. Later, the resignation letters of all the teachers were returned but it was implemented without returning that of Joynal.

He added that he was forced to be released as a result of political revenge. But he could not accept it in any way. He filed a case in the court in 1993 to get his profession back. Joynal got his profession back on March 9 this year after a long 28 years of trial. To get the joining letter, he submitted a copy of the verdict to the headteacher Md. Yusuf of the school.

Joynal Abedin said he was the president of Feni Government College Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in 1983 and Sadar Upazila BCL in 1984. He was dismissed from the post of school teacher due to his deep involvement in Awami League politics. He was also the organizing secretary of Sharshadi Union Awami League.

The president of school board directors and also local UP chairman Jane Alam Bhuyan said necessary steps will be taken after getting the copy of court verdict.
