Al Nahian Khan Joy, new acting president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), and Lekhak Bhattacharya, new acting general secretary of the ruling party's student wing, have promised to regain the dignity of the organization.

They expressed their promise at a press conference held at Dhaka University's Madhur Canteen around 1 pm on Sunday.

Al Nahian Khan Joy said, “Chhatra League has contributed to every chapter of the history of Bangladesh. This student organization cannot be a slender partner. We will try to recover the lost honor of the BCL.”

Lekhak Bhattacharya said, "We have been in charge of the organization at a turbulent time. It has to be handled first.”

At the same time, the two leaders pledged to take all positive actions to restore the BCL's structure and old traditions. They also promised to take all the challenges to strengthen Sheikh Hasina's hand.

The Joy-Lekhak will pay homage with followers to the sculpture of Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi 32 around 11 am tomorrow.  Later, the duo met with Awami League president Sheikh Hasina and they would officially start their duties.

In the context of controversy, criticism and allegations, the former president of Chhatra League Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and general secretary Golam Rabbani submitted their resignations last night. Then Al Nahian Khan Joy and Lekhak Bhattacharjee have been given the charges of the president and the general secretary.
