Given verbal instructions to use ‘Joy Bangla’ as a national slogan, the High Court on Tuesday said “‘Joy Bangla’ should be the national slogan.” The verdict will be announced on January 14 regarding the rule.

A dual bench of the High Court comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Quader fixed the date.

The writ lawyer Dr Bashir Ahmed was present in the court in favor of the writ.  Deputy Attorney General Barrister ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar was heard for the state.

The final hearing of the rule began on December 4 about making the ‘Joy Bangla’ as the national slogan. The hearing of the rule ends on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Supreme Court lawyer Dr Bashir Ahmed filed a writ with the High Court seeking directive to declare ‘Joy Bangla’ a national slogan. Later, the court issued a rule asking why ‘Joy Bangla’ would not be declared a national slogan. The Cabinet Secretary, the Law Secretary and the Education Secretary are asked to respond to the rule.

“Joy Bangla is not a party slogan, it is a symbol of our national motivation,” the writ said.
