Hours after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked four technocrat ministers of the current cabinet to step down, Nurul Islam BSc has resigned as the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister.

He submitted his resignation letter to the Cabinet Division on Tuesday evening, said his assistant private secretary Niaj Morshed Niru.

He said, “Minister's personal secretary Abul Hasnat Humayun Kabir submitted the resignation letter to the Cabinet Division on behalf of Nurul Islam around 6:30 pm.”

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister directed the four technocrat ministers to quit the cabinet, said Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader while talking to reporters at Ganobhaban after the Cabinet meeting.

He, however, said the other ministers will remain there as usual in their respective posts.

The four technocrat ministers are Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matior Rahman, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc and Science and Technology Minister Architect Yafesh Osman.
