MacKenzie Scott, a billionaire ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has donated another $2.7bn (Tk 228.96 crore) to different charities.
In a recent blog post, MacKenzie Scott said she wanted to donate the money to those who have been “underfunded and overlooked”.
MacKenzie wrote she chose 286 organizations working on racial inequality, the arts and education.
MacKenzie Scott, the world’s 22nd-richest person, splits from Jeff Bezos in 2019. As part of the divorce deal, she ended up with 4% of Amazon’s shares, for helping Bezos start the technology giant in 1994.
In December, the ex-wife of Amazon founder revealed she had “donated more than $4bn” (Tk 339.21 crore) in just four months to women-led charities, food banks, and Black colleges.
In her recent blog post on Tuesday, she said she was keen to “redistribute her wealth”, having worked with a team of researchers and her new husband, science teacher Dan Jewett.
It is to be mentioned that MacKenzie Scott signed a “Giving Pledge” in 2019 where she promised to give away most of her wealth acquired from Jeff Bezos, however, Bezos has not yet signed the pledge.
The Giving Pledge is a commitment by the world’s richest individuals and families to dedicate the majority of their wealth to giving back. It was started by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett in 2010.
