The Election Commission (EC) has fixed July 14 for the by-elections in Jashore-6 and Bogura-1 constituencies amid the coronavirus due to constitutional obligation. The election will be held in accordance with the health rules. And even if one or two votes are cast for the candidates, the election will be considered as success officially.
On Monday, the senior secretary of the Election Commission Alamgir made these remarks.
Everyone has to abide by the rules of health during the election campaign and voting, adding that he said, “Due to constitutional obligation, two by-elections have to be held within 180 days. Either in the first 90 days to the next 90 days, this has to be done within 180 days.”
If elections are not held now, issuing it in the future may lead to big unpleasant incidents in the country. Therefore, there is no alternative to the election, said the EC secretary.
