Outgoing Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has said that he has retired from his own will. In this context, he referred to it as a rare honor and fortune for himself.

He said this at a reception hosted on behalf of officials of the Ministry of Finance on Monday.

The ex-minister said, “At the age of 85, I served as a finance minister of a state like Bangladesh. In the last 10 years, Bangladesh has reached a high level. In this period, we have tried to contribute to governing the government smoothly.”

He also said that once in the global level, Bangladesh was not seen very seriously. “Now, Bangladesh is not in that position. We went ahead with the cooperation of everyone. I believe nobody will be able to bring down the country and it will progress more in the next 5 years.”

Responding to a question of reporters, the ex-Finance Minister said, "From now on I will read books and write books. There are 50 thousand books in my collection. They have not all been read. I am thinking to start reading these things after retirement. Another thing I will do is that I will continue my writing."
