Monsoon fairly active, rain likely to increase

As an outlook for the next 72 hours, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said on Monday predicted: "Rain or thunder showers is likely to increase."
The Met Office also forecasted light to moderate rain or thundershowers with moderately heavy to heavy falls at many places in all divisions of the country in the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00 am today.
"Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at isolated places over the country," said a Met Office release issued this morning.
Besides, day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
The low over Northwest Bay and the adjoining coastal area now lies over West Bengal and adjoining area, the Met Office said, adding that the axis of monsoon trough runs through East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, the centre of the low and thence northeastwards to Assam across central part of Bangladesh.
Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong elsewhere over North Bay, the release added.
Country’s maximum temperature was recorded yesterday by 36.7 degrees Celsius in Sylhet and the lowest temperature today was recorded by 25.0 degrees Celsius at Hatiya in the Chattogram division.
Maximum rainfall for the last twenty-four hours till 6:00 am today was recorded by 38 millimeters (mm) at Hatiya under Chattogram division.
The sun sets at 6:47 pm today and rises at 5:11 am tomorrow in the capital.
