Iranian Vice President Masoumeh Ebtekar, President Hassan Rouhani’s deputy for women’s affairs and the highest-ranking woman in the government, has become infected with the coronavirus. 

London-based media Independent provided the information, citing state news in Tehran on Thursday. 

106 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in the last 24-hours in Iran, which country has emerged as new hotspots for the disease - officially known as COVID-19. So far, 26 people in the middle-east country have died from the disease. The number of death from coronavirus is the highest outside China. Iran's Ministry of Health reported that at least 245 people have been infected in Iran. 

Earlier on Tuesday, Iran reported that Iraj Harirchi, the deputy health minister who had been leading the effort to contain the coronavirus, has fallen ill with coronavirus.
