Ratan Kumar Paul, a well-known weightlifter in Bangladesh, has suffered from “knee osteoarthritis” since 2000 while doing weightlifting. He underwent knee replacement in 2010 from Chennai, India. He then suffered two brain strokes. At present, he cannot move. Although he was bedridden at home after losing his physical strength due to the disease, no one kept track of him. Only his wife, Yuthika Rani Paul, is by his side. They have requested the Prime Minister for cooperation.

Ratan Kumar Paul, son of Herang Kumar Paul of Rajarhat area of Kushtia town, has participated in various competitions at national and international level including Russia, China, Bulgaria, India.

Once “Mr. Bangladesh” has received numerous awards and honors – 16 gold medals, 31 silver medals, 22 bronze medals, 2 bronze and 2 international awards, including the Olympic medal in Bangladesh.

“I can’t get treatment due to lack of money, can’t buy medicine. I was a renowned weightlifter and bodybuilder. I have won various medals including gold and bronze by participating in various competitions at home and abroad. I seek the Prime Minister’s cooperation in such a situation,” said Ratan Kumar Paul.

“Once I lifted 100 kg to 150 kg with this hand, now  I can’t even eat properly with this hand. What could be more difficult than this,” he said with regret.

“Once I participated in the National-International games with my own strength and got various medals and honors including gold, silver, bronze. But today I can’t get treatment due to a lack of money. No one is looking for me, no one is helping me,” Ratan Kumar Paul added.

“My husband is an international weightlifter,” said his wife, Yuthika Rani Paul. “He was a government employee. But there was no help from the government. At present, our condition is also very bad. We cannot educate our son properly.

“We urge Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to extend her financial support. His treatment has been stopped for the last two years due to lack of funds,” she added.
