International Day of Peace today

International Day of Peace today

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. This time the theme of the day is 'Build peace together'.

In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly declared the International Day of Peace to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace. Although the day has been observed on the first Tuesday of September since the beginning of the General Assembly session, it has been decided to observe the day on September 21 every year since 2001.

On this occasion, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will ring the peace bell today. He issued a statement wishing peace for people in all parts of the world.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus epidemic, peace marches and joint oath-taking ceremonies are not being organized this time. That is why the UN General Assembly has called for the use of the symbol of World Peace Day on social media.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on all warring parties to lay down their weapons and focus on the battle against this unprecedented global pandemic.
