The Indian variant of Covid-19 has been detected in the country, said the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR).

IEDCR came up with the information in a press release on Saturday.

According to IEDCR, four cases of Indian variant have been detected in the country so far. The four patients affected by this variant have returned from India recently. They went to India for treatment and are currently staying in Jashore.

IEDCR further said that the Indian strain was detected in a sample test at Evercare Hospital in the capital. Which is published in the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GSID) in Germany.

Researchers have labelled the Indian variant as B.1.618 which is a combined form of three different Covid-19 strains. Studies have shown that the variant of coronavirus is highly contagious. It is thought to be contributing to a surge in coronavirus cases in India.

It has been reported that Indian variants of coronavirus have been found in at least 20 countries of the world so far.
