Indian High Commissioner calls on LGRD Minister

Newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy paid a courtesy call on Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Tajul Islam.

Vikram K Doraiswami paid the courtesy call on the Local Government Minister in his room at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon. During the meeting, they discussed issues of mutual interest.

LGRD Minister Tajul Islam expressed his due respect for the support of the Indian government and people during the liberation in 1971. He said the foundation of India's relationship with Bangladesh was laid by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her worthy daughter, has maintained her continuity. India-Bangladesh relations have now reached a unique height than at any time in the past, he said.

He said whenever anti-independence forces came to power in this country, they have tried in the past and are still trying to bridge the gap between Bangladesh and India. Their conspiracy will never succeed. Because the relationship between the two countries is spiritual and strong.

As a result of friendly relations between the two countries, many more issues including border and sea issues have been resolved. The minister expressed hope that the two countries would work together in the future as well.

Describing Bangladesh as a non-communal and secular country, the local government minister said people of many religions live in the country and practice their religion peacefully. People of all religions are living with full civil rights, all kinds of social facilities and security.

Appreciating Bangladesh's ongoing development, women's education and women's inclusion in the economy under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswamy pledged to be a partner in all development of the country.

Indian High Commissioner expressed interest to work together with Bangladesh for urban development, waste management, cooperatives and other sectors including the dairy industry. The Minister for Local Government assured the Indian High Commissioner of his full cooperation during his tenure in the country.
