The number of daily coronavirus infections in the world has risen again. In the last 24 hours, 276,367 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus around the world while 5,721 died from the pandemic. India has seen the highest number of infections and deaths during the period.
As of Wednesday afternoon, a total of 31,812,854 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 975,951 while 23,419,361 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
In India, the death toll from the pandemic has risen to 90,021 after 1,056 people succumbed to the disease over the past 24 hours. Besides, 80,391 new cases have been registered during the period, that pushed the country's COVID-19 tally to over 5.64 million. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 5,640,496. India has the second-highest number of active cases and ranks third in the COVID-19 death toll.
The United States, the worst-hit country in the world, has seen the second-highest death toll of 969 in the last 24 hours. The country is still at the top in coronavirus deaths and infections. A total of 205,471 people died in the country due to the pandemic and more than 7.09 million have been infected so far.
Meanwhile, the Latin American country of Brazil has seen the third-highest death toll of 809 in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 138,159. The total number of cases has exceeded 4.59 million with more than 35,252 new infections.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.
