India sees 6138 new deaths, highest in one day for any country

India on Thursday reported 6138 deaths linked to COVID-19 in a day, the highest number of deaths in a single day for any country during the pandemic.
The previous deadliest day for a single country was also recorded in India in May, when 4,529 people died.
According to the Union Health Ministry, 94,052 fresh cases and 6,148 new deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed infections in India to 29,183,121 and deaths to 359,676 in the country.
Also, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) revealed that 37,21,98,253 samples tested for COVID-19, up to June 9, 2021. Of these, 20,04,690 samples were tested yesterday.
Meanwhile, the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered across the country has increased to 23,90,58,360.
