India recorded the lowest daily rise in Covid-19 cases in 50 days with 1,52,734 new infections, taking the country’s infection tally to 2,80,47,534, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday morning.

The last time the country's single-day rise of Covid-19 cases was less than 1.52 lakh was on April 10 (1,45,384).

Meanwhile, the death toll due to COVID-19 stands at 3,29,100, with 3,218 fatalities being recorded in a span of 24 hours, as per the Health Ministry data. The last time India's single-day Covid-19 death toll was less than 3,100 was on April 27 (2,771).

The active COVID-19 caseload in India has now further declined to 20,26,092 as active cases decreased by 88,416 in the last 24 hours.

India's positivity rate remained below 10 per cent for the seventh straight day.

Earlier this month, the country's daily Covid cases had hit a global record with 4.14 lakh infections in a day; healthcare system was burdened and hospitals reported shortage of beds and medical supplies. The country, however, has seen a drop in cases in the last two weeks. Daily cases have been below the 2 lakh-mark since Friday.

With 2.8 crore total cases, India is just behind the United States (3.32 crore cases) in overall case count.

The South Asian nation has so far administered 21 crore doses; 12 crore doses will be available in June, the government has said amid criticism over slow of vaccination.
