The death toll from the coronavirus in India on Wednesday morning rose to 45 as the number of confirmed cases in the country reached 1,590, according to worldometer data.

The data reads, so far 148 people have been discharged from hospitals after recovery. The number of active cases in the country right now is 1,397.

The previous update from India's federal health ministry put the number of COVID-19 cases in the country at 1,397 and the death toll was 35.

Wednesday marks the eights straight day of ongoing 21-day lockdown across the country announced by the government to contain the spread of the pandemic. Authorities have imposed strict curfew-like restrictions to prevent the movement of people across the country.

All road, rail and air services have been suspended in wake of the lockdown, except essential services which are exempted.

A health ministry spokesman said the prevention, containment and management of COVID-19 in the country were being monitored at the highest level and various actions have been initiated in collaboration with the states.
