IGP gives a stern message to OCs

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Benazir Ahmed held a meeting with the OCs of 660 police stations through a video conference for the very first time in the history of the country. At the same time, he expressed his strong stance against any kind of corruption of OCs.

He spoke out against corruption in a three-hour video conference on Thursday morning. This is the first time that the IGP has exchanged such views with the OCs of all the police stations across the country.

He said that at present, life can be run smoothly with government salaries and other facilities. The expenditure of a government employee must be commensurate with his legitimate income.

Referring to the unique role of the police in coronavirus pandemic, the IGP said that what the police have done in the last three months to protect the welfare and security of the people is truly unprecedented. The people have also paid the police for it. The police have gained immense trust, respect and confidence of the people and won their hearts. The dignity and respect that has been given to the police cannot be bought with money. Bangladesh Police will retain this dignity and will move forward with the confidence and trust of the people.

The IGP said, "We are all working to make Bangladesh free from corruption and drugs with the sincere will and inspiration of the Prime Minister." Bangladesh Police will be free from corruption and drugs first. Our position against corruption and drugs is 'Zero Tolerance'. No member of the police will take drugs, will not be involved in the drug business, will not have any relationship with drug dealers.

"We want to take the police to the doorsteps of the people," he said. We are working to bring police services to every ward of the country through bit policing. We want to be with the people and be with them.

He added that the police must come out of the persecution of ordinary people. Any problem has to be solved through legal capacity and human values without using physical force.

The police chief said steps would be taken to ensure the welfare of police officers and the force beyond the current conventional welfare system, including their medical treatment, children's education, housing, and post-retirement welfare. Welfare plans are being drawn up for the purpose of ensuring that every member of the police can lead an honest and transparent life.

Dr. Benazir Ahmed said the OCs of 660 police stations are a reflection of Bangladesh Police. The image of Bangladesh Police depends on you. You have to take responsibility in such a way that people can trust you and respect each of you as a 'social leader'.

The IGP paid his deep respect to the 47 martyred policemen who lost their lives from coronavirus infection at the beginning of his speech. He also expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members. The IGP reiterated his commitment to stand by these families in their good and bad days.
